Vehicle crash results in DWI arrest

A 20-year-old El Dorado man was arrested for DWI and other charges at a traffic crash in downtown Ruston early Sunday morning.

Police responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Park Avenue and Bonner Street about 2:00 a.m. One driver, Landon Vinson, was unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcoholic beverages. An odor suspected to be marijuana was smelled in his vehicle.

Vinson said there “may or may not be” a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle. A search found suspected marijuana, a marijuana cigarette, a glass smoking pipe, and eight unopened beers.

Vinson performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested. A breath sample taken at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.134g%.

Vinson was booked for DWI, careless operation of a vehicle, possession of alcohol by a person under 21, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $1,500.
