Unwanted guest found with drugs

A man a homeowner requested be removed from her premises was found to be wanted on warrants and possessing drugs when arrested by police.

Ruston Police officers responded to a Martin Luther King Drive residence Thursday evening to investigate an “unwanted guest” call. The homeowner told police she had allowed a family member, Lazerick Mardis, 44, to stay a few nights because he had nowhere to go. When she asked him to leave, he got loud and scared her and her children and refused to leave.

A records check showed Mardis was wanted on three warrants from Third District Court for failure to appear for possession of controlled substances, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and traffic charges.

Mardis was arrested and during a search, suspected ecstasy tablets, crack cocaine, and synthetic marijuana were found in his pockets.

Mardis was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of ecstasy with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine, possession of synthetic marijuana, and the bench warrants.

His bail bondsman voided his previous bail on pending charges, resulting in Mardis’s total bail being $313,500.
