Driver crashes into store display, flees scene

A 19-year-old arrested for DWI Tuesday submitted a breath sample registering almost 13 times the legal limit for drivers under 21.

Ruston Police responded to Lowe’s Tuesday night regarding a hit and run. Officers were told a blue BMW had driven into Lowe’s parking lot and struck several BBQ grills on display. The vehicle then left the scene.

An officer located the BMW in the 1200 block of Celebrity Drive. The sole occupant, Byron Hernandez-Rodriguez, 19, was passed out behind the wheel with the engine running. He exhibited signs of intoxication and was arrested

The driver was taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center where he performed poorly on field sobriety tests. He submitted a breath sample indicating his blood alcohol concentration was 0.256g%. Louisiana law prohibits the blood alcohol content of drivers under 21 from being 0.02g% or above.

Hernandez was booked for first offense DWI, hit and run, and no driver’s license.
