Welfare check prompts arrest

Officers conducting a welfare check arrested a woman on several charges Saturday morning.

Ruston police officers responded to the intersection of Vienna Street and Colorado Avenue. About 10:15 a.m. Friday. A woman at the location was identified and it was determined she was wanted on two failure to appear in court warrants. She was also found in possession of a device commonly used to smoke methamphetamine.


Jyone Cottingham, 34, of Ruston, was arrested for failure to appear in court on warrants for entering premises after being forbidden (trespassing) and resisting an officer, and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Cottingham was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. Bail was set at $6,000.
