A Ruston man was arrested early Monday after he was found to be impaired on a traffic stop.
Datreo M. Wagner, 39, was stopped after he allegedly ran the flashing red light at the intersection of Farmerville Street and Mills Avenue. His vehicle also had an inoperable brake light and he failed to signal a turn onto Vienna Street.
When told to exit the vehicle, Wagner allegedly almost fell. Officers detected an odor of alcohol on Wagner’s breath. Wagner performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest.
At the Lincoln Parish Detention Center, Wagner refused to provide a breath sample. When he began actions that could damage detention center property, staff attempted to handcuff him. Wagner began throwing punches and one deputy received a punch and elbow strike to the side of his face.
Wagner was eventually controlled and was booked for DWI first offense, running a red light, improper brake lights, no vehicle insurance, battery on a police officer, and resisting an officer. Bail was set at $8,000.
