The people have spoken, and the winner of the Golden Mic “Best Radio Personality” is none other than LPJ Co-Publisher and voice of Louisiana Tech Lady Techster softball Malcolm Butler.
Butler is a 25-year veteran behind the mic and serves as the play-by-play announcer for Bulldog football and men’s basketball and Lady Techster softball.
He was the only non-Power 5 nominee in the category which included Brian Rice (Tennessee), Chris Plank (Oklahoma), DJ Sanchez (Oklahoma), Mattie Fowler Burkhardt (Nebraska) and Tom Canterbury (Alabama).

Butler won the 2022 Golden Mic for the Radio Play-by-Play Call of the Year with his call of Katelin Cooper’s walk-off, bases-loaded triple in the bottom of the seventh inning in the regular season finale that gave the Lady Techsters the Conference USA regular season title.
During his broadcasting career he has also placed six times in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association College Broadcaster of the Year, including capturing the top honor in 2017 and the runner-up for the award in 2013 and 2016.
