Five Monroe men were arrested after they allegedly threatened and assaulted several Grambling State University students on campus early Friday morning.
Devondre Stewart, 21, Macario Walker, 21, Kimor Coleman, 19, Quanterious Howard, 19, and Jimmy Mitchell, 20, all of Monroe, were arrested in the Hunter-Robinson Hall parking lot by GSU Police shortly after the 1 a.m. incident.
The four victims told police they were walking past Hunter Hall when they saw three men leaving the second floor of the all-female dormitory. They told the three it was a women’s dorm and continued walking.
The victims were then approached by the men in a hostile manner. Stewart allegedly pulled a Glock pistol from his waistband or pocket and flashed it at the victims. Coleman then allegedly punched one of the victims in the face. The victims fled to the GSU police station and reported the incident.
Officers responding to the dorm found five men entering a gray Ford Fusion. They were detained and investigation identified them as the persons involved. Three stolen firearms were found in the car.
All five were booked for possession of a firearm on a school campus, illegal possession of stolen firearms, trespassing, and unlawful disruption of the operation of a school. Stewart was additional charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and Coleman with simple battery.
Guns on the GSU campus continue to plague the university despite vigorous efforts on the part of administrators and campus police to keep weapons and trespassers away.
In this case, none of the five men arrested were students.
Bail was set as follows: Howard, $175,000; Stewart, $58,000; Coleman, $19,500; Walker, $18,000; and Mitchell, $18,000.
