The Grambling State University men’s basketball program announced its 2023-24 schedule on Wednesday morning. This season’s slate features 12 home games, in addition to two neutral site classics.
The Tigers are coming off its best season as a member of Division I. Last season, GSU finished 24-9 overall and 15-3 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). Grambling State reached the 2023 SWAC Championship game where it fell to Texas Southern 61-58.
GSU experienced new heights during the 2022-23 campaign, defeating two Power 5 programs in the same season for the first time in school history.
Grambling State opens the season at home on Nov. 6 when UNT-Dallas comes to town. The Tigers then hit the road and head to the Rocky Mountains for a non-conference tilt at Colorado on Nov. 10.
On Nov. 14, Champion Christian College pays a visit to “The G” before the Tigers head back on the road for string of nine games away from the Fredrick C. Hobdy Center.
The road swing begins in Atlanta, Ga. where GSU will face Delaware State in the HBCU Classic on Nov. 17. On Nov. 19, the Tigers take on Iowa State in Aimes, Iowa. Grambling State wraps up the month of November in Troy, Ala. for a pair of game versus Sam Houston State (Nov. 22) and Troy (Nov. 24) in the Trojan Classic.
The Tigers tip-off December in the Buckeye State on Dec. 2 for with the University of Dayton. GSU gets seven days of rest before another Power 5 battle at Washington State on Dec. 9. The Tigers close the month of December with contests at Drake (Dec. 14), Southeastern Louisiana (Dec. 20) and the University of Florida (Dec. 22).
Grambling State welcomes in the new year on Jan. 2 with its final non-conference game of the season, a home bout versus the College of Biblical Studies.
The home SWAC slate for GSU features Prairie View A&M (Jan. 6), Texas Southern (Jan. 8), Southern (Jan. 20), Mississippi Valley State (Jan. 27), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Jan. 29), Alabama State (Feb. 10), Alabama A&M (Feb. 12), Florida A&M (March 2) and Bethune-Cookman (March 4).
The SWAC road schedule begins at BCU (Jan. 13) and continues with FAMU (Jan. 15), Jackson State (Feb. 3), Alcorn State (Feb. 5), TSU (Feb. 17), PVAMU (Feb. 19), Southern (Feb. 24), AAMU (March 7) and ASU (March 9).
The 2024 SWAC Basketball Tournament is sccheduled for March 13-16 at Bartow Arena in Birmingham, Ala.
