Two dead, one wounded in Friday night Jackson Parish shootings

Two were killed and another seriously wounded in two separate shootings in Jackson Parish Friday night.

The shootings occurred just hours after Jonesboro-Hodge lost to Red River earlier in the night.

At approximately 11:40 p.m. Friday, the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about shots being fired at the Circle K in Jonesboro.

Jonesboro Police and the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Officer responded to find one man who had been shot. Jackson Parish Ambulance Service transported the victim to Jackson Parish Hospital where he died of his injuries. Jonesboro Police requested the sheriff’s office take the lead on the homicide.

At approximately 1:35 a.m. Saturday morning, the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office received another 911 call reporting a second shooting on U.S. 167 between North Hodge and Quitman.  The driver of the vehicle was shot while driving, and the front seat passenger wounded. By the time first responders and deputies arrived on the scene, the driver had died. The passenger was transported by the Jackson Parish Ambulance Service and Pafford Air One to a trauma center for treatment.

According to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office, investigators are diligently working on both cases. “We currently have people of interest in both cases and are asking anyone who may have witnessed these shootings to contact us,” the statement said.

The names of the victims have not been released by the Sheriff’s Office but some news outlets and social media are reporting one of the men killed was Bre’Untae Hicks, the 27-year-old son of Jonesboro-Hodge athletic director and head football coach Terrance Blankenship.
