Update on Jackson Parish homicide

Authorities are searching for a man wanted for the shooting death of Bre’Untae Hicks, the 27-year-old son of Jonesboro-Hodge athletic director and head football coach Terrance Blankenship.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Terrion S. Atkins, Jr., of Jonesboro, for second degree murder.

At approximately 11:40 p.m. Friday, the Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about shots being fired at the Circle K in Jonesboro. Jonesboro Police and the Sheriff’s Office responded to find Hicks had been shot. Jackson Parish Ambulance Service transported the victim to Jackson Parish Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Jackson Parish Sheriff Andy Brown said Atkins allegedly “went back to his car and retrieved a firearm and walked to Hicks’ truck and fired at him at least seven to eight times with what we think was a 40-caliber Glock.”

About 1:35 a.m. Saturday morning, the sheriff’s office received another 911 call reporting a second shooting on U.S. 167 between North Hodge and Quitman. The driver of the vehicle, Devontre “Dee” Jackson of Grambling, was shot while driving, and the front seat passenger was wounded. By the time first responders and deputies arrived on the scene, Jackson had died. The passenger was transported to a trauma center for treatment.

Brown said the Sheriff’s Office has identified a person strongly suspected of being involved in the second shooting death of Jackson that night on U.S. 167.
