RPD steps up traffic enforcement

The Ruston Police Department is increasing red light and stop sign enforcement after receiving “numerous complaints” about violators in Ruston.

“Your safety is our top priority,” a RPD announcement said, “and we want to remind everyone to plan their journeys with enough time to reach their destinations safely without the need to rush through intersections.”

The announcement said officers will increase their monitoring of Ruston red lights and stop signs starting this week, and will issue citations to motorists who refuse to stop.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, failure to yield at stop signs and red lights is the fourth leading cause of car crashes.

“Running red lights is not only against the law but also poses a significant danger to both drivers and pedestrians,” RPD said. “We urge you to obey traffic rules for the safety of all community members.”
