A Louisiana Tech student has been arrested following multiple stabbings shortly after 9 am this morning outside the east side doors of the Lambright Intramural Center on the Louisiana Tech University campus.

This appears to be a random act of violence.

The suspect is 23-year-old Jacoby Johnson of Rayville who is in custody as he was apprehended heading south past West Alabama Avenue behind JC Love Field at Pat Patterson Park. He was also taken to NLMC for self-inflicted injuries.

Reports said four people were attacked by Johnson as they exited Lambright headed down the sidewalk on the east side adjacent to the outdoor pool.

As of 11:40 a.m. one victim is in critical condition at NLMC and the two other victims are in serious but stable condition, according to a University Communications press release. The victim airlifted is a graduate student. The other three victims are non-students.

Victims names haven’t been released at this time. The two victims who went to NLMC flagged down an unidentified Louisiana Tech student named “Colin” who immediately after the incident and were rushed to the facility in his vehicle.

Colin’s social media post read: “Just to update ya’ll on what is going on. There was a stabbing at Lambright Center at Louisiana Tech. I was on my way back to my dorm when two victims ran up to my truck covered in blood begging to be took to the hospital. I told them to get in and stayed on the phone with 911 the entire drive. One victim took a fatal stab to the neck and the other victim near the head. Please pray for these two women.”

NOTE: as of 1 p.m., there were no fatalities.

At this time, the Lambright Center is closed. All other campus operations are normal. The investigation is ongoing and the university will provide an update later this afternoon. Counseling Services will hold group sessions this afternoon on the third floor of Keeny Hall.
