AUSTIN, Texas – Louisiana Tech fell to a hot shooting No. 11 Texas, 96-44 on Sunday afternoon inside the Moody Center.

“Texas played really well today,” Lady Techster head coach Brooke Stoehr said. “They punched us early, and we didn’t do a very good job of coming out. Their first few shots were open in terms of us not doing anything to deter and dictate the types of shots that they got.

“We knew we had to take care of the ball and not give them extra possessions by turning it over and handling their press. And then we needed to make sure that we tried to compete on the boards a little better.”

In the first, LA Tech (2-1) got off to a slow start, going 0-3 with three turnovers in their first six positions. The Lady Techsters would start to settle down and knock down a couple of threes to end the quarter down 30-10.

Texas (4-0) started the game by knocking down their first four shots en route to 11-17 from the field for 64.7 percent in the first quarter.

The Longhorns extended their lead to 35 halfway through the second before the Lady Techsters put together a small four-point run. Neither team would score for three minutes before the Longhorns scored four in the final 30 seconds.

LA Tech knocked down three of their six three-pointers in the third quarter in their highest-scoring quarter of the day at 15 points. Salma Bates accounted for two of those while adding two points from the charity strip for eight points in the quarter.

Texas closed the game by outscoring the Lady Techsters 23-10 in the final quarter.

The Lady Techsters will travel to Des Moines, Iowa, to participate in the Vibrant Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Drake from Nov. 24-26.
