Century Next Bank invites you to Lincoln through the Lens, our 22nd annual December Art Show and Open House, on Tuesday, December 5 from 5-7 p.m. at our main office in Ruston. This year’s photography exhibition is a nod to the parish sesquicentennial, with each of the featured artists showing work from Lincoln Parish. Our selected artists this year are Cara Beth Buie, Michael LeBlanc, and Markus Wobisch.
In this exhibition, viewers will be reminded of the sky’s power and magnitude through Cara Beth Buie’s photographs. She often features downtown Ruston, showing its historic buildings in their glory. Michael LeBlanc’s photographs show beauty and color found in unexpected places. He is also an exceptional portrait photographer, telling stories through his subjects’ personal spaces. Markus Wobisch’s black and white photographs demonstrate his love for monochromatic images. He focuses on details and simple shapes, often featuring shadows and reflections in his compositions.
In 2000, when we opened our building on North Vienna Street in Ruston, the idea of an annual art show was implemented as a way to highlight the wealth of talent in our communities by featuring artists from our area. This year’s artists are transplants to Lincoln Parish, and it’s beautiful to see their perspectives of this place through the camera lens. Buie is originally from Minden, LeBlanc from Rayne, and Wobisch from Germany. As a two-university community, Lincoln Parish sees a lot of coming and going. For these three artists, they moved here and chose to plant deep roots through family and business.
In addition to her fine art work, Buie and her husband run Buie Photography, which specializes in wedding and graduation photography. They also recently opened Buie Photo Shoppe & Studio in downtown Ruston, renovating a historic storefront on Mississippi Avenue. LeBlanc’s photography is part of his larger Blanc Studio, which also includes print and web design, branding, and videography. He is also an Instructor in the School of Communication at Louisiana Tech University. Wobisch is a particle physicist who teaches physics at Louisiana Tech and does research at the Large Hadron Collider. He and his wife, artist Christiane Drieling, are the organizers behind Art on 45, an art show with works created on 45 rpm vinyl records.
Upon selling artwork from the exhibition, the artists are encouraged to donate a portion of their sales to a local arts organization. There are several regional arts nonprofits that provide arts programming and add cultural value to this special place that we call home.
Century Next considers this annual exhibition a way to promote regional artists as well as to provide an opportunity for the community to view and engage with the artists and their works. We welcome you to take time to view the Lincoln through the Lens photography exhibition. In addition to the reception and open house on December 5 from 5-7 p.m., the exhibition will be on display the entire month of December during regular business hours. We are certain you’ll find something to appreciate and perhaps a new way of seeing a beloved Lincoln Parish landmark. Please join us as we celebrate these talented photographers and toast the holiday season!
