BREAKING: Jackson out at GSU

The Hue Jackson era for Grambling State University football has come to an end after only two seasons.

Multiple sources say that Jackson and GSU officially parted ways Tuesday morning after the former head coach of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns managed only an 8-14 record over his two seasons at Grambling, including a 5-6 campaign that just concluded with a 27-22 loss to Southern on Saturday in the Bayou Classic at the New Orleans Superdome.

Jackson was named head coach at GSU in December after signing a four-year $1.6 million contract with an annual salary of $400,000. Only the first two years of that contract were guaranteed but reports indicate GSU will buy out the remaining two seasons of Jackson’s contract.

Jackson replaced former head coach Broderick Fobbs, who was fired by Grambling fired after eight seasons as head coach.

Fobbs is currently the interim head coach at the University of Louisiana-Monroe as that schools conducts a search for a new head coach. Fobbs served as running backs coach for ULM this past season.

Before taking over at GSU, Jackson spent the 2021 season as offensive coordinator at Tennessee State under head coach Eddie George.

Prior to that, Jackson had been out of coaching since he was fired by the Browns in 2018.

Sources say that GSU Assistant Head Coach John Simon will serve as interim coach until a permanent replacement for Jackson is named.

Grambling State Athletics will host a press conference today at 3:30 p.m. to address the state of the GSU Football Program. The press conference will be streamed live on @HBCU_Plus on the X platform.
