Ruston High split their Monday soccer matches against Parkway with the boys winning 2-1 and the girls falling 4-1.
The boys rallied after trailing 1-0 at the half thanks to a header score from senior Koy Tolar off a corner from junior Connor Tims. Ruston scored again with the winning goal from senior Ty’Jai Ursi. Freshman Ben Wages logged multiple saves in goal.
“Overall I’m super proud of this team like I mentioned before they are making progress each game and we hope to keep this winning momentum going,” Ruston head coach Isaac Ramirez said. “I also want to thanks our fans and parents for coming out to support.”
On the girls’ side, junior Mia Tapia scored her third goal of the season early in the first half, but it would not be enough as Parkway would score four unanswered goals following.
“We controlled the momentum for nearly the entire first half,” Ruston High head coach Jaquelyn Bean said. “Parkway had no response for what we were putting together in the first 25 minutes.”
The Lady Bearcats would struggle in the second half with a series of fouls that got the team out of rhythm.
“The final score doesn’t show how many shots we had on goal, how many corner kicks we earned, we just couldn’t find the back of the net,” Bean said. “There’s some luck involved in this sport. There’s no doubt about it. If you watch soccer, you know this is true. The score doesn’t reflect how hard we worked. We will keep pushing forward, looking for the goals to happen for us.”
Both Ruston squads return to action Thursday, Dec. 7, against North DeSoto for home matchups.
