Fingerprints catch suspect giving fake name

A DWI suspect arrested in Ruston by state police Monday had additional charges added Tuesday after it was discovered he had provided a false name and fraudulent identification.

A Louisiana state trooper arrested a 39-year-old man after he crashed off the roadway of La. Highway 33 Monday night. He was booked for DWI, no driver’s license, careless operation of a vehicle, and expired license plate. The suspect identified himself as Fausto Cuellar.

The driver’s fingerprints obtained when he was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center were submitted through the Automated Fingerprint Identification System to check for wanted status and criminal history. Information received Tuesday morning from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security indicated the man using the name Cuellar was actually Rene Alonso-Justo.

When the arresting trooper learned of the information, he went to the detention center and advised the suspect he was also being charged with possession of a fraudulent document and misrepresentation during booking. Alonso-Justo said the information received was incorrect and that the information on the identification card that he paid $200 for was accurate.
