The Ruston Lady Bearcats fell 55-45 on Friday at the West Ouachita tournament to Neville after a game that, according to Ruston head coach Meredith Graf, was very much not who she expects this team to be this season.

“We didn’t show up ready,” Graf said. “We had somewhat of a repeat of our Rosepine game where we shot ourselves in the foot time and time again which caused us to never catch up or get a rhythm.
You name it, we did it. Caught the ball with foot out of bounds, unforced turnovers of every kind, repeated errors.

After trailing 11-4 after the first quarter, the Lady Bearcats would spend the rest of the game trying to get a lead over the Tigers of Neville before falling in regulation.

“Unfortunately we also had Jaliyah McWain roll her ankle in the first quarter which kept her out till the second half and then Zaccheya Jackson have a minor knee moment in the second half. No matter the situation, we have to do better with how we start the game and just flat out execution. A lot of basketball left to play but how we played today isn’t who we are.”

Jackson finished the night with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists.
