A road trip to Cen-LA Friday proved no problem for Ruston’s basketball teams as the Lady Bearcats picked up a 65-10 win over Pineville, while the boys brought an 80-61 victory back home over the Rebel boys.

Ruston’s win streak has now extended to eighth in a row, thanks in large part to freshman Ahmad Hudson pouring in 26 points for the Bearcats.

The Bearcats (11-7, 1-0 District 2-5A) continue to climb the power rankings after the win, and now sit sixth after their eighth straight win.

“We had a great first half,” Ruston head coach Ryan Bond said. “We played with a high level of intensity. We relaxed a little in the second half.”

Senior Lonnie Dimmer added 16 points, while both juniors Aidan Anding and Joran Parker finished with 15 points apiece.

On the girls side, the Lady Bearcats (16-7, 1-0 District 2-5A) cruised to the victory with senior Jaliyah McWain finishing with 13 points and freshman Angelica Green adding 10.

“Our goals for district and the remainder are the year are all about us and controlling what we can control,” Ruston head coach Meredith Graf said. “We have team goals for each game and our focus is to accomplish them every time we step out on the floor no matter the opponent. The goal is to build good habits in preparation for the playoffs. We want to be the best version of ourselves upon playoffs.”

Ruston’s boys’ varsity squad was scheduled to return to action Monday, Jan. 15, for a matchup with Catholic BR for the MLK Warrior Classic in Baton Rouge. That game has been canceled due to weather. The Bearcats will continue district play Friday, Jan. 19, against West Ouachita at home.

The Lady Bearcats are slated to play Wednesday, Jan. 17, against Peabody on the road.
