An inmate at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center has been charged with his second attack on a staff member at the Ruston facility.
Last Monday evening, a detention center shift supervisor went to the holding cell of Deonta L. Alexander, 25, of Celeste, Texas, to provide his bedding for the night. Alexander was being held alone in a holding cell for disciplinary reasons due to a previous attack on a staff member.
When the supervisor opened the cell door, Alexander charged out of the cell into the hallway and violently attacked the staffer and attempted to punch him in the face. The employee was able to react quickly enough to protect his face with his arms.
The supervisor fought off Alexander until additional detention center staff arrived to assist. Even with the additional assistance, Alexander continued to violently resist until employees were able to control him and apply handcuffs.
Alexander was charged with simple escape, battery of an officer, and resisting an officer, all felonies.
On December 30, Alexander was charged with a similar incident where he charged out of a housing unit and violently struck a detention center deputy in the face. In that attack, he was charged with simple escape, battery of a police officer, and resisting an officer.
Alexander was originally booked on December 17 with felony criminal damage to property, tampering with surveillance or monitoring systems, and public intimidation. The bail for all Alexander’s charges totals $190,000.
