Louisiana State Police arrested a Farmerville man after stopping him on La. Highway 33 for speeding 82 in a 55 mile per hour zone.
Charles Stafford, 40, was stopped about 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening. The trooper saw signs of intoxication and administered field sobriety tests. After the tests, he was arrested and taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.
During transport to the detention center, Stafford became agitated and belligerent and began screaming and banging his head on the protective cage in the back seat, causing a cut above his right eyebrow.
Once he calmed down at the detention center, the trooper took him to North Louisiana Medical Center for treatment of the laceration above his eye. He again became belligerent and began to scream and yell obscenities at the nurses and a doctor.
After release from the hospital, Stafford was taken back to the detention center where he refused to submit to a breath test. Stafford was booked for first offense DWI, speeding, and driving under suspension.
Bail was set at $1,500.
