Former Tech hoop star murdered in Shreveport

Former Louisiana Tech men’s basketball player Zach Johnson was identified Monday as the victim of a stabbing death by a woman in Shreveport.

Johnson, who played for the Bulldogs from 2000 through 2003, was found by police early Sunday morning on the 9500 block of Rose Hollow Lane in Shreveport’s Briarcliff neighborhood.

Police found the 43-year-old Johnson, who was stabbed following a family altercation according to Caddo coroner’s office reports. He was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health, where he died at 12:58 a.m. Sunday. It’s the 19th homicide this year in Shreveport.

Shemika D. Johnson, age 39, was arrested at 7:59 a.m. Sunday morning and charged with second-degree murder, according to city jail booking records.

Zach Johnson played at Woodlawn High School in Shreveport before signing a national letter of intent to play for former Bulldog coach Keith Richard at Louisiana Tech. He averaged 5.0 points and 6.0 rebounds during his final season with the Bulldogs in 2002-03.
