Man wanted as unregistered sex offender caught

A Ruston man wanted for failing to register as a sex offender was arrested last Tuesday as he was found violating a protective order.

Deputies went to a Meredith Lane residence in Ruston to attempt to locate Michael Scott Cherry, 38, and arrest him on a warrant for failing to register in 2023 as a sex offender. The Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office had received information that Cherry was living at the address with his wife, who along with her children, were the protective parties in a court-issued protective order against Cherry.

When deputies approached the front door, Cherry was arrested in the rear of the residence by others.

Cherry’s wife admitted he had been living there for a few weeks in violation of the protective order and that she knew he had not registered as a sex offender last year.

Cherry was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center on the warrant for failure to register as a sex offender and an additional charge of violation of a protective order by being near the protected parties. Bail on the warrant was $50,000, but a hold was placed on Cherry for probation & parole officers of the Louisiana Department of Corrections.
