It was a season of growth for a young Cedar Creek softball team.
And it came to an end Tuesday night when the Lady Cougars dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 1 seed Opelousas Catholic in the Select School Division IV playoff regional round.
The No. 17 seeded Lady Cougars (13-15) gave Opelousas Catholic all the wanted in their second straight road game in south Louisiana. Creek defeated Louis McGehee in New Orleans 23-0 Saturday.
Seventh grader Kendall Ramsey went the distance in the circle for the Lady Cougars, tossing 6.0 innings while allowing three runs on six hits and only one walk. She struck out two.
Opelousas Catholic (22-6) scored one in the second and two more in the fifth against the Lady Cougars.
A leadoff walk in the second followed by back-to-back stolen bases put a runner into scoring position for the top seeded home team and then a ground out to shortstop scored the first run of the game in the second inning.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, three hits led to two more runs, including a two-out, two-run single to left field to make the score 3-0.
Cedar Creek was never able to manufacture any offense of its own. Mallory Smith, Ava Lantrip and Anna Claire Fitgzerald each recorded hits in the game for the Lady Cougars.
However, Opelousas Catholic starter Amy Little struck out 13 batters in the contest.
