Groups come together for beautification of campus

Green was the word last week with Louisiana Tech’s SciTEC division.

The Science and Technology Education Center (SciTEC) division in the Louisiana Tech University College of Education and Human Sciences and the Division of Buildings and Grounds hosted a cleanup/beautification event during LovetheBoot Week, the state’s EarthWeek initiative organized by Keep Louisiana Beautiful through the Office of the Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser.

The event took place just ahead of Tech President Dr. Jim Henderson’s Investiture.

“Our group was excited to help create a cleaner, greener, more beautiful Louisiana and Louisiana Tech University campus as part of this larger effort,” said CEHS Associate Dean and SciTEC director Dr. Lindsey Keith-Vincent. “We had help from individuals from four of our colleges and multiple support divisions during the exciting event. Special guests such as Louisiana Tech First Lady Tonia Henderson, Buildings and Grounds longest serving team member Mr. Frank Barber, University Senate President Louis Reis, and Miss Louisiana Watermelon Festival Olivia Grace George made engaging in this activity a special priority of their week.”

Zach Mays, Director of Buildings and Grounds, said coordination and many hands made the work quicker.

“In 90 minutes, we were able to plant 1,620 flowers plus put out 48 bags of mulch,” Mays said. “That would have taken our crew two days.”

The work completed will be on display throughout the summer and into the 2024 fall when Tech welcomes new Bulldogs to Louisiana Tech.
