Shots fired in attempted robbery

Grambling Police arrested an Arcadia man last Tuesday after a victim said he attempted to rob him with a handgun.

Dontavius C. Tibbs, 23, was arrested on numerous charges about 2:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Grambling State University police officers saw the suspect fleeing the area with a pistol in his hand. He was detained until Grambling PD arrived at the scene.

The victim and a witness told GPD they were walking back from a store when Tibbs approached him about transferring the victim’s funds to him via a cash app. The victim told him no and Tibbs allegedly pulled out a .380 pistol. When the witness yelled for him to put the gun away, Tibbs fired three shots, and the victim and witness fled.

A bag of suspected ecstasy tablets was found in Tibbs’s pants pocket. He was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for attempted armed robbery with a firearm, illegal use of a weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of MDMA (ecstasy), a Schedule I controlled substance.

A hold was placed on Tibbs for the Louisiana Department of Corrections, Office of Probation and Parole.
