The athletic talent at Cedar Creek is once again shining brightly. The Cedar Creek Cheer teams and Emerald Entertainers returned home from camp decorated with numerous awards for their achievements throughout the week.

The Cedar Creek Varsity and Junior Varsity teams attended the UCA Cheer camp at the Gaylor Texan in Grapevine, Texas. Throughout the week, the girls learned about cheer, bonded as teammates, and competed for awards in various categories. Varsity cheer captain, Rosemary Sewell recalled the fond memories she created with her team over the years and expressed her gratitude for their time spent at camp.

“UCA Camp has been an important part of my life for the past 4 years, and I will forever cherish the memories I’ve made,” Sewell said. “I was blessed to spend my last cheer camp with my best friends, and it was the most successful one yet. My teammates and I went in with two goals, to have fun and to bring home the Gameday Trophy. We did that and much more.”

The Cedar Creek Varsity team indeed took home numerous awards including second in place Camp Routine, first place in Gameday Routine, Superior Blue Ribbon for Camp Routine Evaluation and Superior Gold Ribbon for Gameday Evaluation. The Junior Varsity team made several notable accomplishments as well including second place in Camp Routine, Superior Blue Ribbon for Gameday Evaluation and Superior Gold Ribbon for Camp Routine Evaluation. Junior varsity cheer captain, Averie Moon, acknowledged the learning and bonding experience that the camp provided aside from just the awards.

“My teammates and I had a wonderful time at cheer camp this year. We learned a lot, both from the way that we cheer and as a team,” Moon said. “We grew closer to each other than we had ever been before. We cannot wait to show everyone our talent this year at pep rallies and on game days.”

The cheer program received the “UCA Traditions Award,” given by the UCA to a program who they believe demonstrates the qualities of true leadership on and off the field. The girls also received the “Coveted Banana” on the third day of camp, awarded to the team with the most spirit each day. Both teams also brought home a spirit stick at the end of the week.

The Cedar Creek Emerald Entertainers also attended camp at the SMU team camp this year. Emerald Entertainers captain, Anna Grace Johnson explained how the team jumped into the challenge of the new experience this year.

“This year we tried out a different camp than we usually attend. Our team went in not knowing what to expect, but we ended up really benefiting from it,” Johnson said. “We learned five different routines in 2 days that we will be able to use in the upcoming school year.”

The Emerald Entertainers obtained an outstanding number of awards during the week including the Saphire Sweepstakes Trophy, Gussie Nell Davis Team of the Day for day 2, Guess Nell Davis Team of the Week, 9 Outstanding Red Ribbons, 4 Exceptional Pink Ribbons, 3 Outstanding Teal Ribbons, 2 Special Award Yellow Ribbons, 2 All American Honorable Mentions and 3 All Americans. Baley Heirs was also named for the All-American Dance Company and Anna Grace Johnson received the Outstanding Performer award.

After returning home with countless accolades and a newfound spirit of teamwork, it will be exciting to see what the Cedar Creek Cheer teams and Emerald Entertainers achieve next season. With new routines and outstanding recognition under their belts, these talented ladies are poised to impress.
