On Thursday, July 18, 2024, Ronny went home to be with our Lord and Savior.
Funeral services for Ronald Morris “Ronny” Baker, age 75 of Ruston, LA are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Monday, July 22, 2024 at Alabama Presbyterian Church near Choudrant with Rev. Ricky Edmiston officiating. Interment will follow in Sibley Cemetery near Choudrant under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.
Ronny lived all of his life in the Choudrant community. He graduated from Choudrant High School and studied welding at the Technical College in Ruston. He initially began a career driving a gas truck for a few years before realizing his true passion as a farrier. After starting a family, Ronny followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming a school bus driver for Lincoln Parish while maintaining his farrier career. Later in life, he started Baker’s Deer Processing which he ran for multiple years as well. Ronny retired from bus driving after 30+ years and gradually retired from his long farrier career after 50! years of hard work which took him all over north Louisiana. His two sons have fond memories of summers “helping” dad shoe horses. Ronny loved spending time with his grandkids and was also known for putting quite an edge on a knife blade. Bus driver to many, cowboy to some, but his greatest title was being called Pappy. The family would like to thank all the support from close friends and family who visited and took care of him during his final days with a special thank you to Amy Luker for being his primary care and her daughter Lilly for her endless entertainment with song and dance.
Ronny is survived by his two sons, Clay Baker and Justin Baker and wife Emily; grandsons Joseph Baker, Tristan Baker, and Jacob Baker; nephew Randy Upchurch; nieces Suzy Gardunio, Tracey Renfrow, and Emily Gaylor; as well as numerous great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Morris Clayton and Emma Lee Baker and his sister Johnette Upchurch.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons Joseph, Tristan, and Jacob as well as close friends Tim Smith, Steve Baker, Greg Franklin, Jeremy Barmore, and Robert Nolan.
Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Sunday, July 21, 2024 in the Alabama Presbyterian Church Family Life Center. To leave an online memorial message for the family, please visit http://www.owensmemorialfuneralhome.com
