Man tries to run over woman during altercation

A Grambling man was arrested for aggravated battery after he allegedly attempted to run over a woman last Tuesday.

Jesse L. Mayfield, 62, was arrested on numerous charges by Grambling Police after a woman reported to officers that he tried to run over, hit her with a stick, and stole her cellphone.

About 8:30 a.m. on July 16, a woman told officers Mayfield usually gives her a ride but he refused. She left the house and Mayfield allegedly followed her outside while he was arguing with someone on the phone. Mayfield then attempted to run over her with his vehicle and the woman said she left the roadway and hid behind a tree.


The woman said an physical altercation ensured with Mayfield striking her with a stick and took her phone. He left the scene but officers obtained a description of the car and a partial license plate.

Officers saw a small gash on the woman.

Mayfield’s vehicle was located at a Wilson Street apartment. Mayfield was taken into custody and refused to speak with officers. He was booked for aggravated battery, aggravated battery with a vehicle, and theft over $100.

Bail was set at $31,000.
