Police at Grambling State University arrested two men Tuesday after investigating a report of a person threatening to shoot someone.
Ernest G. Chatman and Trenston Jaiquan Allen, both 19, were arrested on numerous drug and weapon charges about 7 p.m. Sept. 17.
GSU Police responded to the Knott Hall parking lot after a call a person wearing a red hoodie was making threats to shoot someone. Chatman was found standing inside the open passenger door of a Nissan Altima and Allen was seated under the steering wheel.
Officers detected the odor of marijuana around the suspects and the vehicle. Marijuana, cash, and one 5.7×28 mm cartridge were found in a backpack Chapman was wearing.
In a search of the Altima, officers found a FN Herstal 5.7x28mm pistol with an attached laser.
A records check showed the firearm had been stolen in Lincoln Parish.
A backpack in the car contained bags of marijuana and empty bags commonly used for packaging drugs. A digital scale was found on the car’s floorboard.
According to an officer’s report, Chatman claimed ownership of the marijuana in his backpack, and Allen claimed the marijuana in his bag. Neither admitted possessing the stolen firearm.
Allen and Chatman were booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of a firearm in a school zone, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, illegal possession of a firearm in proximity to a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance in a drug-free zone, and possession of marijuana.
Allen was also booked for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Bail for each man was set at $75,000.
