Man charged with drugs on campus

A Texas man was arrested on the Grambling State University campus last week after a police officer saw what appeared to be a drug transaction.

Marvin N. Morris, 20, of Saginaw, Texas, was arrested September 25 on several drug charges.

A GSU officer on patrol saw a 2008 Ford Focus stopped at an intersection on campus when a man wearing a backpack walked to the driver’s side window and appeared to engage in a hand-to-hand drug transaction with the driver. When the man walked away, the vehicle left at a high rate of speed and improperly entered a crosswalk when students were crossing the street.

The officer stopped the Ford and found Morris to be the driver. Morris appeared very nervous with his hand shaking, according to the officer’s report.

The GSU officer smelled marijuana coming from the car and performed a search which located several plastic baggies of marijuana inside a larger ziplock bag. The bag contained 10 smaller bags of marijuana with a total weight of 46.6 grams.

Morris had $297 in his pants pocket. He was arrested and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to yield to a pedestrian.

Bail was set at $50,000.
