A fast sweep Tuesday night secured the District 2-I title for the Ruston High School Lady Bearcats with finals of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-15.

The title is the second in a row for Ruston High School after winning District 2-I last season as well.

“I’m extremely proud of this team because everybody in our district is getting better,” Ruston High head coach Mandy Cauley said. “It’s not as tough as it is playing South Louisiana teams that have been established for a longer time. But it’s also not the cakewalk it used to be. We’re having to serve tough and execute, so I’m proud of our girls for consistently showing up and taking care of businesses in the manner that is expected of us to deliver.”

Senior Harper Cauley led the team with 13 kills, while sophomore Ava Crowe followed with 12. Sophomore Baylor Cauley played nearly the entire match as the setter, racking up 27 assists on the night to go with seven kills, herself.

The win marks the fourth in a row for Ruston High and wraps up district play despite a full month of the season to go.

“At this point, we’re battling for power points and positioning,” Cauley added. “We really want to be in the top half of the bracket, and if we could crack the top ten, that would be even better. But it’s going to be an uphill battle for us.”

Ruston returns to action down in South Louisiana later this week to try to add some more of those coveted power points — first at Lakeshore on Thursday and then a tournament in New Orleans at Fountainbleu High School.
