Cedar Creek rushed for over 400 yards and held Plain Dealing to zero first downs and minus four yards of offense in a 64-0 win Friday night.

It was the Cougars (1-5) first win of the season while Plain Dealing (0-6) dropped its 32nd straight game. The Lions last win came more than three years ago.

As tough as the night was for the Lions, it was just what the doctor ordered for the Cougars.

“For the sixth straight week the boys have gotten better and played better,” said head coach William Parkerson. “I am happy that they were rewarded with a win. Going out and continuing to do the right things every week. Practice hard. Play hard. Compete. It was nice to finally see them rewarded with a win.”

Creek scored on its first eight possessions of the game and converted all eight two-point conversions while not allowing Plain Dealing any success offensively.

The Cougars eight TD drives took only a combined 27 offensive snaps and the only possession Creek didn’t score on was the final one when the clock ran out.

Creek averaged more than 10 yards per carry on the night as seven different Cougars scored on the ground while the eighth TD came on a pass from Cason Floyd to James Myers.

Five different Cougars totaled 50 or more yards on the ground, led by Wyatt Gremillion (8-78-1), Payton Harris (2-67-1), Trigger Woodard (5-63-1), Myers (2-52-1) and Liam Durrett (9-50-1). Mason Wooden and Floyd also added TD runs for Creek.

Creek led 40-0 after the first quarter.

“We started spot subbing in the second quarter,” said Parkerson. “Keeping most of the starters out there with a few backups mixed in. We tried to spread the ball around and get different guys some touches. We wanted to have success without running up the score.”

Floyd completed 2-of-3 passes for 49 yards, including the 15-yard score to Myers and a 31-yard hookup with Landon Burnham.

Creek was 8-for-8 on two-point conversions, including successful runs by Wooden (4), Slocum, Floyd, Woodard and Harris.

Defensively, Creek held the Lions to minus 4 total yards on 27 offensive snaps with the longest play from scrimmage being an eight-yard run.

“I looked up at one point in the second half and on defense there were three eighth graders and seven freshmen,” said Parkerson. “A lot of young guys to play and got a lot of valuable snaps. It’s always nice to be able to reward those guys who give us a good look in practice every week.”

Harris, Asa Singleton, and Noah Smith led Creek with four tackles each while Wooden, Blake Robinson, Eli Slocum, Joseph Luffey, Vance Mallet and Ryder Sellers each recorded three stops. Myers added a fumble recovery.

Creek will host Haynesville Friday night in Ruston.
