Alexander, Mills pace Creek teams at LHSAA state cross country meet

Luke Alexander and Evelyn Mills were the top finishers for Cedar Creek during Monday’s Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) state cross country championships held on the campus of Northwestern State in Natchitoches.

The three-mile route finished at Walter P. Ledet Track Complex.

Alexander finished seventh in the boys Division IV meet to lead the Cougars to a 10th place finish out of 24 teams. Mills finished 44th in the girls Division IV meet to lead the Lady Cougars to a 13th place finish out of 23 teams.

Alexander recorded a time of 17:02.51. In addition to Alexander, Joshua McCarthy finished 22nd with a time of 18:04.87 followed by teammates Tanner Andrews (56th/19:44.64), Will Myers (131st/24:25.77) and Micah Kneeland (138th/25:23.62).

Metairie Park Country Day won the boys team title with 49 points, led by individual title winner Christian Myers (15:59.20).

On the girls side, Mills registered a time of 23:02.33 for the Lady Cougars. Marley Jinks finished 50th with a time of 23:14.21 followed by Anna Smith (80th/24:52.23), Audrey Barron (89th/25:23.34) and Madeline Kneeland (119th/28:08.46).

Metairie Park Country Day won the girls team title while Hathaway’s Kaitlyn Sawyer won the individual title with a time of 19:06.67.
