Troopers catch Ruston man with stolen car

Louisiana State Police arrested a Ruston man last week after he was found in possession of a stolen car on Interstate 20.

Rakeem T. Mateen, 33, of Ruston, was arrested for illegal possession of stolen things after he was found on I-20 walking away from a stolen car on November 15.

Troopers on patrol saw a 2012 Honda Civic in the median near I-20 milepost 94. As the troopers approached, they saw two men walking away from the vehicle. The men said they had run out of gas.

A record check revealed the vehicle had been stolen in Ruston on November 14.

Mateen said he purchased the vehicle from a friend in Ruston for $500 cash about 8:00 a.m. on November 14. He identified the man and the site of the transaction.

Mateen was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. Bail was set at $15,000.
