Tech places four on Academic All-District team

Louisiana Tech’s volleyball team placed four athletes on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, announced by the association on Tuesday.

Izabely Benjamin, Charlize Williams, Jailen Hurley, and Riley Steubing all achieved a 3.5 GPA in the classroom and made significant contributions for the Bulldogs on the court.

Benjamin is on pace to graduate in the spring in marketing and has a 3.53 GPA. On the court, the Rio de Janeiro native finished third on the team with 154 kills and was second with 221 digs.

Williams had a record-breaking season in her one year with Tech. The middle blocker tied the school record with 1.24 blocks per set, and her 128 total blocks put her fifth all-time for the Bulldogs. She added 135 kills on the offensive side. The grad student finished with a 3.87 GPA at Maryland Eastern Shore while earning her degree in rehabilitation psychology. At LA Tech, she earned a 4.0 for her master’s in counseling and guidance.

After being named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, Hurley receives her second academic award. The junior has a 3.83 GPA in interior design. The right-side hitter finished with 103 kills, 52 blocks, 67 digs, and 14 aces for the season.

Steubing stepped up for Tech early in the season at libero. The sophomore has a 3.81 GPA in kinesiology and health sciences. Steubing finished with 329 digs and 46 assists on the season.
