MONROE, La. — Ruston High took a loss at Wossman by a final score of 65-17 after struggling to find any offense in a road contest Tuesday night.

And with the incoming weather, the Lady Bearcats have now canceled their home game against Byrd tonight.

In the Lady Wildcat game, Ruston scored eight points in the first quarter but had little success with any offensive attack afterward, scoring only four points total in the second half.

“We started the game with aggressive defense, but as it progressed,” Ruston High head coach LaShanda Cooper said. “We made several mental mistakes and allowed them second chance opportunities to score. Despite having multiple scoring chances, we couldn’t find an offensive rhythm. We missed a lot of open shots and struggled in transition.”

Ruston’s Jasmine Summerford led the Lady Bearcats with six points total — all scored in the first half. Senior Kiersynce McNeal added six points.

Wossman’s Ashanti Smith led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with 15 points.

While Lincoln Parish Schools (including Ruston High) will be in school today, all after-school activities have been canceled tonight which includes Ruston’s hosting of Byrd tonight. Ruston currently has Sterlington scheduled for tomorrow and no decision will be made on closures until later this afternoon.

Follow the Lincoln Parish Journal for more information on the winter weather and potential closures in the area.
