Pedestrian struck in Ruston, driver charged
Ruston Police arrested a local man last week after he allegedly struck a pedestrian with his vehicle and left the scene.
Ashton T. Tyler, 23, of Ruston, was arrested for hit and run driving and reckless operation on January 9 after a pedestrian walking near the roadway on Maple Street was struck.
Officers responded to the location where they found a man complaining of a head injury bleeding profusely from multiple lacerations on his left hand. The man said he was walking north on Maple Street off the roadway when a white Chevrolet or GMC truck struck him.
The man said the truck continued north on Maple Street and did not stop. Part of the side mirror knocked from the truck was found at the scene.
Another officer located the suspect truck at an apartment complex on West Barnett Springs Avenue with Tyler as the driver. He said he had looked down at the battery light on his dashboard which caused him to leave the roadway and he thought he had struck a sign.
Tyler was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center with bail set at $21,500. The victim was treated at the Northern Louisiana Medical Center.
