The Northern Louisiana Medical Center has invested in a new state-of-the-art surgical system. The Da Vinci XI Surgical System will impact the efficiency of the operating room, benefiting the structure of the hospital itself.

Designed to improve the capabilities and efficiency of surgical operations, the Da Vinci XI Surgical System is the most widely used multi-port robotic surgery system in the world. The new addition to the medical center will provide staff with a system of features including Firefly fluorescent imaging, integrated table motion, advanced instrumentation, and overall an improved operating room.

The surgical system will not only provide a more efficient operation, but it could potentially allow for better recoveries as well. Dr. Derek McCluskey of Northern Louisiana Medical Center explained the benefits that the surgical robot will provide to his team.

“The da Vinci platform gives us better visualization and more precision than traditional laparoscopic surgery,” McCluskey said. “I have seen less postoperative pain and earlier return to normal activities in my robotic surgery patients.”

The Da Vinci technology is capable of efficiently performing surgery by visualizing anatomy in highly magnified 3DHD, providing depth perception and perfectly clear vision. The system’s wristed instruments bend and rotate beyond the ability of a human hand, while the tremor filtration and intuitive motion technologies allow surgeons to operate with careful and natural motions.

The new machine will open a door to new possibilities for better surgeries and recoveries for patients of the Northern Louisiana Medical Center. The significant investment will be worthwhile to the hospital, as well as the patients and surrounding community. With more efficient surgeries that provide faster and easier recoveries, patients can foresee a quicker return to normalcy post-operation.

McCluskey shared his thoughts on how the machine will impact both patients and others.

“I’m excited that NLMC has made another significant investment in our hospital and community’” McCluskey said. “Faster recovery from surgery is better for our patients as well as their local employers.”
