Senior hurdler Oscar Smith has been named the Conference USA Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, per the office’s release Tuesday afternoon.
“I am extremely happy to have Oscar on my team,” head coach Brian Johnson said. “He has definitely helped put our team on the map. He is a great student-athlete that is working hard to be the best he can be.”
Smith, native of Nassau, Bahamas, secured a victory in the 60-meter hurdles at the Stan Scott Invite & Multi on Saturday after posting a time of 7.82. He earned the automatic qualifiers after finishing first in his preliminary and semi-final heats.
This was his second victory in the event, having won previously at the season-opening Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational in January. Smith broke the program’s indoor record with a time of 7.74, which currently stands as the fastest time in CUSA and the 10th-fastest time in the NCAA Division I South Central region.

He also stands among the top 30 competitors nationally across NCAA Division I.
Smith and the Bulldogs now begin preparations for their final regular-season indoor meet at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15 at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
