Couple arrested after convenience store incident

An altercation between a man and a woman in Ruston last week resulted in their arrest on several charges.

Uleashy Lynett Brantley, 41, and Lamont M. Rogers, 33, both of Ruston, were arrested on January 31 after they allegedly assaulted one another during an altercation at the Grab-It #2 convenience store on South Farmerville Street.

Investigating officers found Brantley attempting to leave in a vehicle as they arrived. Brantley admitted to having a baseball bat, but that she was not going to strike the man who she identified as her husband.

Video surveillance from the store showed a verbal altercation between Brantley and Rogers where Rogers attempted multiple times to run up and strike the woman but was prevented from doing so by bystanders. Rogers was then seen on the video walking away while Brantley grabbed a baseball bat from the trunk of the car and attempted to strike him multiple times, but was also stopped by bystanders.

Brantley had been barred from the premises by the owner on an earlier occasion.

Rogers was found to have a glass smoking pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue inside his clothing.

Both were arrested and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. Brantley was charged with aggravated assault and entering premises after being forbidden. Rogers was booked for simple assault and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at $1,000 each.
