Remembering Bill J. Attebery

Dr. Bill J. Attebery passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, passing away in his sleep at Northern Louisiana Medical Center.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Dossie and Leona Attebery, brothers Harry Attebery and John Attebery, and sister Margaret Attebery.

Dr. Attebery was a Mathematics Professor Emeritus at Louisiana Tech University, serving as department head for many years.  He also served as math professor at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR and Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR.   Having grown up on a farm, Dr. Attebery continued his enjoyment of working in the soil for most of his life.  He was also a skilled woodworker, creating many furniture pieces for family and friends.  Camping and traveling with his wife, Patsy Attebery, and their grandchildren was also one of the joys of his life.  He and his wife enjoyed many trips across the country, seeing the many wonders of our nation.  Upon retirement from teaching, Dr. Attebery began an intensive research activity into the genealogy of the Attebery family, tracing the roots of his family back centuries to their immigration to this country.  His research included many trips with his wife across the states discovering family memorials and monuments.

There will be a private family graveside service for Dr. Attebery at the Kilpatrick Memorial Garden in Ruston.  The service will be held on February 16th and performed by his youngest brother Rev Charles Attebery. 

Dr. Attebery is survived by his wife Patsy Attebery, children Paul Attebery (Dawn) and Beth Archer (Jackie), and grandchildren Meghan Attebery, Karen Hersh (Jared), Ashley Hanna (Trey), Taylor Brown (Walter), Emily Guzman (Ryan), Shane Attebery and Sammie Attebery.  He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren.
