Three Mississippi men were arrested in Lincoln Parish last week after a load of marijuana was found in their vehicle during a stop by Louisiana State Police.

A vehicle following a commercial truck at an unsafe distance was stopped on I-20 eastbound near milepost 77 by a state trooper on March 29. After the vehicle was stopped, the trooper smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The driver and passengers gave conflicting accounts of their travels. The driver, Trey T. Gilliam, 30, of Shubuta, Miss., said he was traveling home to Mississippi from Dallas, Texas, where he dropped off a friend for work and stayed for two days. The front seat passenger, Zacchaeus L Harris, 29, of Shubuta, and the rear seat passenger, Jakeius Q. Brown, 20, of Quitman, Miss., both said they were traveling from Dallas where they had been looking for jobs and only stayed there a couple of hours.

A search of the vehicle yielded a black duffle bag in the trunk containing multiple vacuum sealed bags of suspected marijuana totaling about 13 pounds. The three were taken to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center where they were booked for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Their bail amount was not available at publication time.
