Grambling Police arrested a Texas man after he was stopped for blocking the roadway and was found to be a convicted felon in possession of a stolen firearm.
Darien O. Candler, 24, of Houston, Texas, was arrested on March 29 following a traffic stop. A Grambling police officer saw Chandler stop on R.W.E. Jones Drive, and the occupants exited the vehicle and danced in the roadway before re-entering the vehicle.
The vehicle was stopped by police and Chandler said he and his out-of-town cousins were in town for the weekend and wanted to have fun. The officer detected strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
A search of passenger Kendall Johnson, address unavailable, revealed two bags of suspected marijuana. He was issued a citation for possession of marijuana.
A 9mm pistol was found under Candler‘s driver’s seat. Candler said he bought the gun years ago, but did not think it was stolen. A records check revealed the pistol had been stolen in Pasco County, Texas. Candler’s criminal history showed he was a convicted felon.
Candler was arrested and booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of a firearm by convicted felon, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, and impeding traffic. His bail amount was unavailable.
