Tech baseball host Flames; softball at Owls

The Diamond ‘Dogs (23-14, 8-3 CUSA) are slated to host Conference USA opponent Liberty Flames (23-14, 5-7 CUSA) for a three-game Easter weekend series at the Love Shack.

First pitch for the series opener is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT today with Game 2 Friday starting at 4 p.m. CT. The series finale is set for 1 p.m. CT on Saturday.

All three games can be seen on ESPN+ with Kyle Roberts and Teddy Allen providing a call of the action. They can also be heard on 97.7 FM with Mark Cramer providing the call.

The Bulldogs and the Flames are set for their seventh, eighth and ninth all-time meetings after clashing for the first time in both programs’ history in the 2024 season. The ‘Dogs swept the series in Lynchburg, Virginia to conclude the regular season and clinch the regular season CUSA Conference Championship.

The Flames topped LA Tech in the second game of the CUSA Tournament at the Love Shack last year, but the ‘Dogs defeated Liberty in back-to-back games to clinch a spot in the championship game. Tech leads the series 5-1.

Liberty enters the weekend with a 23-14 overall record and are 5-7 in league play. The Flames are coming off a midweek road win at Virginia after suffering a weekend sweep to Western Kentucky at home.

The Flames are led by head coach Bradley LeCroy, who is in his first year at the helm of the Liberty baseball game. LeCroy arrived the Lynchburg after spending his first two years as a head coach at VCU.

Softball

Louisiana Tech softball continues its eight-game road trip as the Bulldogs travel to Kennesaw, Ga., to take on Kennesaw State in a three game Conference USA series.

The three-game set will begin tonight at 5:00 p.m. CT, followed by a Friday night matchup at the same time. The two schools will close out the series on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. CT. All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.

This will be the first ever meeting between LA Tech and Kennesaw State. The Owls have been DI members since 2006 and have competed in the Atlantic Sun Conference up until this season.

The Bulldogs improved to 25-18 (11-7 CUSA) after going to 1-2 in Miami against FIU this past weekend. LA Tech fell to the Panthers 6-5 on Friday and 5-2 on Saturday, before winning the series finale 5-4 on Sunday afternoon. LA Tech enters the weekend in a three-way tie for second in CUSA. The Bulldogs (11-7) are tied with FIU and Sam Houston.

The Owls enter this weekend’s series with a 10-24 (1-17 CUSA) record. KSU is last in CUSA with just one win over WKU (1-0). KSU has wins over Rider, ETSU, Saint Louis, Georgia State, Memphis, Northern Kentucky, and Morehead State.
