Cedar Creek saw its 2025 season come to a close Tuesday night as the Lady Cougars fell 10-1 at No. 6 seed St. John in the second round of the Select School Division IV playoffs.
A roster that boasted only one senior in Mallory Smith, the young Creek team simply picked a bad time to not play at their best against a more veteran opponent, according to head coach Julie Riser.
“We did not have our best game today, but I’m proud of this young team and the fight they’ve showed all year. We battled this game as well. I’m so proud of them. They’ve learned a lot this year.”
A 21-win campaign ended in large part to five errors which led to eight unearned runs on the night.
St. John scored three runs in the first, second and third innings to take an early commanding lead and never look back.
Kendall Ramsey took the loss in the circle, allowing nine runs — only one earned — on seven hits and two walks while striking out three in 2.2 innings of action. Ava Lantrip tossed the final 3.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits and one walk with three more Ks.
Offensively, the Lady Cougars (21-9) were led by Hydi Boyd who totaled two hits and scored the lone run, while Anna Claire Fitzgerald, Molly Boyd (RBI), and Cadence Spangler each registered a hit.
Molly Boyd drove in Hydi Boyd with an RBI single with two outs in the top of the second inning to make the score 3-1 at the time before the Lady Eagles responded with a three spot in both the second and third innings.
