Ruston man arrested in Oklahoma in Farmerville shooting

The Union Parish Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with multiple law enforcement partners, has announced the arrest of 18-year-old Jakiron Tywon McGuire of Ruston, in connection with a June 2024 drive-by shooting in Farmerville. McGuire was located and arrested this week in Oklahoma.

The incident involved a targeted shooting on Miller Street in Farmerville in which a white SUV was struck by gunfire while being pursued by another vehicle. The victims’ SUV crashed on North Main Street after sustaining 14 bullet strikes, including through both the front and rear windows. Casings from .223 and 9mm firearms were recovered at the scene.

Recognizing the severity and potential gang-related nature of the shooting, the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office launched a joint investigation with the Farmerville Police Department. Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from businesses along the shooting route which helped identify the suspect vehicle, a blue Honda Accord, later confirmed to have been stolen from the Grambling State University campus.

Evidence mounted over the following weeks and months, including social media posts from McGuire referencing details related to the incident. With the assistance of regional law enforcement agencies, a search warrant was executed at McGuire’s residence In Ruston in October 2024. McGuire was taken into custody at that time for an outstanding warrant, and additional evidence, including a firearm and cell phone, was seized. However, McGuire posted bail in Lincoln Parish before substantial evidence could tie him to the incident and warrants could be issued.

A digital forensic analysis of McGuire’s phone was completed by investigators which yielded references to the shooting in incriminating detail. A warrant was obtained for McGuire’s arrest and he was located in Cleveland County, Oklahoma this week.

McGuire is awaiting extradition to Union Parish where he will face charges in Third District Court of two counts of attempted first degree murder, assault by drive-by shooting, and illegal use of weapons.

Sheriff Dusty Gates said the arrest reflects strong collaboration between multiple agencies and highlights the value of interagency cooperation in solving violent crimes. “I’m extremely proud of the hard work and determination shown by our deputies,” said Gates. “This case took months of persistence, coordination, and careful analysis of complex digital evidence. Their commitment to keeping our communities safe made this arrest possible.”

This case remains under investigation as investigators review additional evidence and explore further possible gang affiliations and related criminal activity.
