Paramedic safe after attempted stabbing in Ruston

A Ruston woman was arrested early Saturday morning after she allegedly attempted to stab a paramedic who had come to her aid.

At approximately 3:15 a.m. on May 3, Ruston Police and Fire Dispatch received a call requesting Ruston Ambulance Service (RAS) for a medical issue. RAS was dispatched to an Evans Street residence where they contacted Kenya Horne. While paramedics attempted to treat Horne, she armed herself with a knife and attempted to stab one of the paramedics while his back was turned. All the paramedics safely escaped from Horne, and requested assistance from the Ruston Police.

Once RPD officers arrived on scene, they found Horne barricaded inside the residence. After speaking with paramedics, RPD gave loud commands to Horne to come outside her residence and speak to them, but Horne refused. RPD was able to eventually get Horne out of her residence without injury.
Horne, 29, was arrested for attempted second degree murder.

Police Chief Eric Watson said, “With incidents of violence toward paramedics increasing around the United States, RPD stands firmly in support of all first responders and remains committed to ensuring their safety as they serve our community.”
