Woman attempts to defraud Ruston credit union

A Ruston woman was arrested last week after she allegedly attempted to acquire a loan at a financial institution by using fake documents.

Janel Mattox, 52, was arrested April 29 for bank fraud after police investigated an incident at a local credit union.

Ruston Police were told Mattox and another individual were attempting to get a home loan using a fraudulent cashier’s check and a fake bank statement.

Upon questioning, Mattox reportedly admitted to officers that the documents were fake. She said the individual accompanying her thought the documents were real and was not involved in the fraud.

Mattox was booked at the Lincoln Parish Detention Center.
