Choudrant’s Davis takes state title in 400-meter dash

BATON ROUGE — Choudrant’s track and field squad wrapped up its 2025 season at the Class B State Championship in LSU Bernie Moore Stadium Saturday and saw a state title in the 400-meter dash among other notable finishes.

“I’m so proud of these kids,” Choudrant Head Coach Melissa Heard said. “They have worked so hard all season, and they absolutely deserve all the recognition. To see their effort and commitment pay off like this–it’s just incredible.”

Junior Hagen Davis took first overall with a personal best time of 52.82 seconds and missed breaking the school record by 0.6 seconds. He was only 0.6 seconds from breaking the school record.

”I was nervous going,” Davis said. “I just put my faith in God and in all my training.”

Senior Avery Ramirez, finished second in the shot put throwing a distance of 37 feet 10.75 inches. Sawyer Cunningham finished third in Discus with a 109 feet 11.75 inches.

On the track, Jakayla Menyweather took third in the 100 meter with a time of 13.38.

Several other athletes made crucial contributions to the team’s overall point total with strong state finishes.

Brayden Pye got 4th in High Jump clearing 5 feet 7.75 inches.

Reese Brown also got 4th in High Jump with 4 feet 8 inches.

Aakayla Menyweather got 4th in the 200 meter with 27.38.

Jacobee Zeigler got 5th in the 110 Hurdles with a 19.40 finishing out his senior year.

The girls 4 X 200 relay team of Jakayla Menyweather, Aakayla Menyweather, Lila Marlette and Hannah Bryan finished 7th with a time of 1:58.55.

Benton Case got 8th in the 1600 meter with a time of 5:06.
